Built from eight years of spreadsheet budgeting

Does it balance?

Keep the control of a spreadsheet without maintaining the formulas. Drachma shows what you've spent, what is still coming, what you're owed, and whether your records agree with your real balances. No bank login. No ads.

Why Drachma exists

The app started as a spreadsheet I actually used.

I tracked my own income and spending in spreadsheets for eight years. It worked: I could see each month, separate normal spending from one-offs, set targets, track account balances, and check whether the numbers reconciled.

What stopped working was maintaining the spreadsheet itself. Every new idea meant another formula, another sheet, and another thing that could quietly break.

It also was not portable enough for the way I actually lived. The workbook was painful to use on a phone, so proper updates usually meant sitting down at a desk. On holiday I would keep expenses in my head or somewhere temporary, then catch everything up after I got home. I wanted the same system in a screen I could comfortably read and update wherever I was.

Drachma is the system I wanted instead: the control of the spreadsheet, without maintaining the spreadsheet.

The method

Track what actually matters, not just what already happened

Drachma is designed around planning, reconciliation and deliberate tracking rather than passive bank feeds.

Know your records are complete

Enter real account balances and compare them with what your ledger predicts. A £0 difference means the story adds up.

See what is still coming

Recurring payments and instalments can appear before they leave your account, so the month is planned rather than rediscovered.

Track both directions of debt

Money owed to you and money you owe belong in the same financial picture as your bank balances.

See the whole month

The monthly grid makes the shape of your spending visible at a glance, not hidden behind one total.

Separate baseline from one-offs

Regular spending describes ordinary life. Extra spending keeps holidays, repairs and exceptional purchases from distorting it.

No bank credentials required

Type transactions yourself or import a statement file on-device. The bank account itself does not need to be connected.

The downloadable workbook keeps the ideas that came before Drachma: a visual monthly grid, Regular and Extra spending, editable targets, account tracking and a balance check.

No email address required. The spreadsheet is a normal .xlsx file and works independently of Drachma.
